[First Deployment] ROMS “Nano Sorter”: Optimal Logistics Operations Combining People and Automation Through a Partnership Between a Staffing-Rooted 3PL Provider and an Automation Solutions Manufacturer

Logitec Inc., a member of the CAMCOM Group that addresses social issues related to “work” through its business activities (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masaomi Kawamura; hereinafter “Logitec”), has introduced the “Nano-Sorter,” a high-rise piece sorting system developed by ROMS Co., Ltd. (head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Yosuke Maeno; hereinafter “ROMS”), which provides automation solutions for e-commerce, retail, and logistics businesses and entered into a business partnership with Logitec in January 2024, into its newly opened Heiwajima logistics center. We are pleased to announce that full-scale operations began on October 1, 2024.

A New Logistics Model Realized Through the Logitec × ROMS Partnership
Logitec, a 3PL provider originating from a staffing business, and ROMS, whose core philosophy is not full automation but the optimal combination of people and automation, share the view that, under severe labor shortages in the logistics industry, the key to optimizing logistics operations is not complete unmanning but smart labor-saving by combining the strengths of robots/machinery and people.
Since December 2023, Logitec has been conducting operational trials at its Heiwajima center using ROMS’ automated warehouse solution, the “Nano Fulfillment Center (NFC).” After multiple proof-of-concept initiatives, Logitec began full-scale, permanent use of the Nano-Sorter at its new Heiwajima center on October 1, 2024.

Benefits for Shippers from Optimal Logistics Operations Combining People and Automation

Background to the Initiative
Over more than ten years of providing temporary staffing and recruitment services to the logistics industry as part of the CAMCOM Group, Logitec has encountered a wide range of logistics needs. In April 2021, the company established Logitec Inc. to enter the logistics outsourcing (3PL) business. Starting with in-house contracted operations, Logitec then moved on to owning and operating its own warehouses in order to gain a deeper understanding of, and provide more comprehensive support to, the logistics sector.
Positioning itself as a third-party provider that serves the logistics industry from the talent domain, Logitec has built “LogiPalette,” a logistics matching solution designed to surface and connect underutilized resources across “people,” “goods,” and “space” to optimize logistics operations.

In April 2024, Logitec launched “Sabakeru,” a search and matching platform that connects warehouse space and in-warehouse operations with shippers’ needs. Within roughly four months of launch, the number of partner businesses surpassed 1,500. Then, in June 2024, to meet more nuanced needs that cannot be addressed solely through conventional hiring of experienced drivers, Logitec introduced “DriverPit,” a driver referral and dispatch service that matches drivers to each assignment, cargo type, and delivery area.
Most recently, in response to the growing demand for warehouse automation and material handling solutions, Logitec has introduced ROMS’ high-rise piece sorter “Nano-Sorter” and commenced full-scale operation.

Future Outlook
Beyond the Nano-Sorter itself, Logitec plans to introduce end-to-end automated warehouse solutions covering storage, transport, and picking operations, as well as seamless integration between such automation equipment and warehouse management systems (WMS). In addition to use by single shippers, we will also explore multi-shipper shared-use and subscription-based models. Looking ahead, by building a broad matching service that can also incorporate other companies’ material-handling equipment, we aim to create a new form of 3PL service that the logistics industry—now standing at a crossroads in the post-2024 era—truly needs.
